Rietveld Schröderhuis
Rietveld Schröderhuis
The Rietveld Schröder House is the architectural highlight of the art movement De Stijl. The house was designed by the Utrecht architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld, commissioned by widow Truus Schröder in 1924. The house is not only designed but also decorated by Gerrit Rietveld (1888 – 1964).
De Stijl
The house is designed according to the principles of De Stijl. Characteristic for De Stijl are the seamless transitions from inside to out, by breaking open the closed walls. The use of primary colours red, blue and yellow (besides white, grey and black) is also part of this art movement.Truus Schröder was deeply involved in the location and design of the house. She had a clear view on the way she wanted to live. Soberness, for example, was fundamental, as she wanted to live in the active sense and not be lived. This resulted in a large and bright living area which can be partitioned into different spaces using flexible walls.
Through the years, Rietveld did several adjustments to the building, but after the passing of Truus Schöder in 1985, the house was restored and brought back to original state. The Rietveld Schröderhuis consist lots of original furniture by Rietveld. For example the zigzag chair and the famous red-blue chair.
Accessibility
Unfortunately the Rietveld Schröder House is not accessible for wheel chairs, prams and strollers. Prins Hendriklaan 50a

Muiden
Muiden
The best way to experience the convivial fortified city of Muiden is to take a stroll by the harbour with its many traditional sailing boats or to settle down at an outdoor café with a view of the Groote Zeesluis. Alternatively, you can explore the fort island of Pampus or visit the centuries-old Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot. Along with Naarden and Weesp, the fortified city of Muiden played an important role. Muiden closed off the Zeedijk dyke and protected the sea and inundation locks of the Vecht. Fort C, also popularly known as ‘the Muizenfort’, has a small museum about the New Dutch Waterline and the Defence Line of Amsterdam.

Fort Werk aan de Groeneweg
Fort Werk aan de Groeneweg
Walking through the historic trenches of Werk aan de Groeneweg is like a walk back in time. The defence structure still has its original configuration. The infantry set-up in World War One consisted of a double trench with earthen walls, 55 group shelters and lovely fruit trees.
The grounds are a fantastic playground for children. You can have a great time here roaming around, crawling through a trench, playing hide and seek and participating in an exciting search and experience walk of about 2 km, with soldier Vendrik as your guide.

Fort Lunet aan de Snel
Fort Lunet aan de Snel
Somewhat hidden in the woods along Gedekte Gemeenschapsweg between Fort Honswijk and Werk aan de Korte Uitweg is the small but atmospheric Lunet aan de Snel. The earthen rampart allowed defenders to repel an attack on Fort Honswijk from the north-east. In addition, its guns covered parts of the Lekdijk – something that could not be achieved from Fort Honswijk.
These days, the fort houses an exhibition that illustrates the key role that water plays in our community and its unique properties.
