Fort Uithoorn
Fort Uithoorn was built in 1911 to protect the railway lines crossing the Defence Line of Amsterdam’s inundation area.
As such, this fort (also known as Fort Amstelhoek) forms part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam. Distinguishing features include the two buildings with hatched gun turrets that are connected to the fort by a covered and partly subterranean passageway. Many of the fort’s authentic elements have been preserved over the years, including the wooden partitions and the telegraph room.
